The Winner: EcoFlow Delta 2
The Delta 2 is the best all-around station EcoFlow makes, and I'll tell you why with numbers. It's rated at 1,024Wh. On my bench, I drew a constant 500W load and got 1 hour and 52 minutes before the low-voltage cutoff. That's 933Wh delivered, which is 91% of rated capacity. That's within my acceptable range. Anything above 90% on a constant load is honest engineering.
It charged from 0 to 100% in 78 minutes on AC input. That's fast. The fan stayed under 40dB the whole time, which I measured with a phone app, so it's not going to keep you awake in a bedroom. The pass-through mode works exactly as advertised: I ran a load on the output while AC was connected, and when I killed the input, the transfer happened without a flicker on my APC UPS. That's the buffer I want protecting my desktop PC.
The app is the best part. I can set the charge limit to 80% to extend cell life, schedule charging during off-peak hours, and the energy tracking gives me line graphs that look like my logbook. It's the closest thing any manufacturer has built to what I do by hand. That got my attention.
But here's the criticism. The front panel is minimal. You get a power button, an AC button, a DC button, and a display. Everything meaningful, like the charge limit or the discharge cutoff, lives in the app. If the app hangs, which it does occasionally, you're blind. I had to uninstall and reinstall it once mid-outage because it froze showing stale status. That's the opposite of comforting.
At $649, it's not cheap. But over a 10-year lifespan, which is realistic for LiFePO4 cells if the BMS doesn't kill them first, that's about 18 cents a day. My old gas generator cost more than that in maintenance alone. The Delta 2 pays for itself the first time it keeps your fridge alive through a three-day outage.
Best Value: EcoFlow River 2 Pro
The River 2 Pro is what I'd tell a friend to buy if they want to keep the fridge alive and not spend a fortune. It's 768Wh, rated at 800W output with a 1,600W surge. On my bench, it delivered 691Wh under a constant 400W load. That's 90% efficiency, which is right where it should be.
It charged from empty to full in 68 minutes on AC. That's fast enough that you can top it off during a lunch break. And it's 16.5 pounds, which means I can carry it one-handed from the garage to the kitchen without breaking a sweat. That matters more than you think when the power's out and you're moving gear around.
But it's not perfect. The handle is molded plastic and it digs into my hand after about 50 yards. I tested that, by the way. And the solar input is limited to 220W, which is fine for topping off but useless for a full recharge. In Colorado winter sun, I got about 110W per panel, which means a full charge from solar would take the better part of a day. That's a top-off, not a recharge. Plan accordingly.

What to Look For
Chemistry and cell type. LiFePO4 is the only chemistry worth buying in 2024. The 15-year lifespan claim is real, but only if the BMS doesn't kill the pack first. Look for prismatic cells, not cylindrical. They're more robust and handle thermal stress better. The Delta 2 and River 2 Pro both use prismatic LiFePO4. That's a non-negotiable.
Efficiency rating. The spec sheet says watt-hours, but the real number is what you get out of it under load. I test at a constant 500W or 400W load and measure actual watt-hours delivered. If a station delivers less than 85% of rated capacity, it's marketing, not physics. The Delta 2 hit 91%. The Jackery 3600 hit 89%. The Bluetti AC180 hit 87%. Anything below that, I'd question.
App control and charge limits. A station you can't control from its front panel isn't a station, it's a battery with a hostage situation. But the app is part of the product. If the app can't set charge limits, schedule charging, or show you real-time energy data, it's a toy. The EcoFlow app does all three. The Jackery app hangs and shows stale status. That's a dealbreaker for me.
Weight and portability. A 36-pound 2kWh station is light. A 77-pound 3.6kWh station needs wheels. Neither is a backpack. Know what you're buying. The Delta 2 at 27 pounds is carryable but not comfortable for long distances. The River 2 Pro at 16.5 pounds is the sweet spot for moving around a house.

Can I run my whole house on an EcoFlow station? No. A 1kWh station will run your fridge, freezer, and some lights for 24 hours. It won't run your AC, your electric oven, or your water heater. The Jackery 3600 Plus at 3.6kWh gets closer, but it's still not a whole-home generator. That's a different product class with different economics.
Is solar charging worth it? Solar is a top-off, not a full recharge. In ideal conditions, a 200W panel will put about 1,000Wh into a station in a full day of sun. That's enough to offset drain, not to refill from empty. For real outages, charge from the wall in 1 to 2 hours or use a gas generator. Anyone who tells you otherwise lives in Arizona.
How long will the battery last? LiFePO4 cells are rated for 3,000 to 4,000 cycles. That's roughly 8 to 10 years of daily use, or 15 years of weekend use. But the BMS is the weak point. If the BMS dies, the pack is dead, and on most stations the cells are not replaceable. That's why I won't recommend a station with non-replaceable cells for off-grid use.
Can I use it as a UPS for my computer? Yes, but check the transfer time. The Delta 2 has a 10-millisecond transfer time, which is fast enough for most desktop PSUs. I run my APC UPS into the Delta 2 as an extra buffer, which sounds redundant until you've had a brownout kill a BMS mid-cycle. The River 2 Pro is also fine for this, but I'd keep the load under 500W.
Final Verdict
The EcoFlow Delta 2 is the best all-around station in the 1kWh class, and I've got 933 watt-hours on the bench to prove it. The River 2 Pro is the best budget pick if you catch it under $350. But if you're asking me what I'd buy with my own money right now, it's the Anker SOLIX S2000 at $599. It's half the size, the app is better, and it delivered 1,891Wh on my bench, which is 94% of rated capacity. That's the best efficiency I've measured in any station under $1,000. The Delta 2 is close, but close doesn't keep your fridge alive longer.
EcoFlow leads on specs most years. But the notebook doesn't lie. And right now, the notebook says Anker earned the top spot.
